This is one of the most terrible pages in the history of France; the wars of religion decimated the kingdom. Queen Catherine de Medici, who had an implacable hatred for Protestants, took advantage, to carry out her dark designs, of the marriage of Marguerite, sister of Charles IX, with Henry of Navarre, who was to bring the main Huguenot leaders to the court of France. It is then that the massacre is decided; on the night of August 24 to 25, 1572, the tocsin of Saint-Germain, Auxerrois gave the signal for blood and death.
