Mr. Charles Urban will, on the evening of Monday, September 2nd, present at the Scala Theatre an entirely novel entertainment, which can best be described as a series of mystic and elaborate illusions portraying the temporary dominance of human nature by "Mephisto," and his ultimate overthrow by the angels of Virtue. Throughout the entire scena the themes of Gounod’s "Faust" are artistically introduced by a largely augmented orchestra and chorus, while the role of "Mephisto" is enacted by Mr. Alfred de Manby. Especially effectiva are the incidents of "Mephisto" emerging from the water and eventually disappearing in flames. The new feature will occupy the stage for about fifty minutes. On the same evening several new topical films will be introduced into the Scala programme.
