A man and a woman throw food at a swarm of pigeons in front of Saint Mark's Basilica (The Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark) in Venice, Italy.
The very elegantly-dressed star of this little slice of film tourism seems a bit uncertain in front of the camera. Perhaps she's worried that the pigeons might make their mark on her dress… The film is an example of the vicarious travel filmmakers offered their audiences in the late-Victorian era. While foreign travel was no longer the exclusive preserve of the wealthy, a real trip to Venice would still be a dream for many.
