Harlequin walks with Colombine in a garden. While he leaves her alone, Mephisto emerges from a well and tries to court her. To seduce her, he closes a bouquet of flowers which he makes appear in the air. Colombine, who initially remains faithful to Harlequin, throws the bouquet into the well, but the bouquet returns to her hand. Mephisto takes the bouquet and transforms it into a jewelry box from which he removes a necklace that he puts around Columbine's neck; this one Mephisto finds very pleasant and she is completely conquered when this one makes a box appear filled with rich clothes which he offers to her. Arlequin then arrives and puts Mephisto to flight by presenting him with a cross, then he snatches from Colombine the presents she had accepted and throws them into a well where they burst into flames.
