Planchet, the King's musketeer, is a drinker and a gambler. He enters the cabaret, gets drunk, loses the contents of his purse at the dice, falls asleep and dreams. His adversary turns into Satan, returns his purse for his soul. Planchet, leaving the inn, gets into a quarrel with a braggart. He draws his sword and, as he lunges, sees Satan before him. He rushes but the sword comes to break against the wall. Planchet is desperate when his good protective fairy appears. She promises to recover his honor with his sword if he agrees to follow her. They both enter a cave. There, gnomes forge a sword for Planchet which will defend him against evil spirits. During this time, women appear who dance around Planchet an infernal dance. Satan appears and Planchet, protected by the fairy, strikes him with his sword and makes him disappear in smoke. The musketeer wants to thank the fairy but… he finds himself in the cabaret. So when the waitress asks him if he wants to drink, he refuses, swearing he won't drink again in his life.
