Georges Méliès plays himself the magician who presents us with a wreath, that he demonstrates is real. Inside the wreath, the head of the devil appears. The Magician then makes the head disappear, and it turns into the head of a woman who bows. After that, it turns into the Magician himself, and then the show is over as the magician again demonstrates putting his hand through the wreath.
Summoning the Spirits was among the lost films of Méliès until 2007 when a copy was identified and restored by the Filmoteca de Catalunya.

Reviews
I found this trick film from 1899 a very basic showoff from Georges Méliès to show trickery with the film medium. He's done a lot better before this, so maybe it is a show of creativity and how tricks can be applied to only a circular part of the frame. It is a very typical mix with spirits and of course, his favorite, the devil himself making an appearance.
