Descriptions

Spot the bowler-hatted gentleman in this film. That's the filmmakers' showman collaborator, chaperoning the children in an orderly parade before rallying an energetic cheer - a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for the film's local audience. A brief return to order in the final procession is gleefully undermined by three of the oldest girls, who dance their way out of line, seemingly unprovoked.

Main (replacement) title (00.07). Teachers (female and one male) walk by the side of broad columns of schoolchildren At an unseen signal 2 broad columns of children, girls and boys aged about 6-8 years, walk to camera along the pavment. In the background, at the end of the street, is a building with a sign reading `Jones Br...'. and the word `jacquard' is decipherable on the lettering beneath. The majority of boys wear suits with white collars; most of the girls wear pinafores over their dresses. The girls at the end of the procession are older and one or two fool about at the end of the line (1.08mins). Note: This film is also numbered 269 on the replacement title but there is only one film numbered 269 and titled ST JOSEPH'S & ST MATTHEW'S SCHOOL BLACKBURN on the documentation.

Two in one

Two schools of children in one film - why didn't they do this more often? More children, more parents to get a few bucks from. No, but seriously, this is a nice idea that makes it a bit different that the rest of similar kind - as well as many more children are shown off. There are boy sections and girl sections, and all is pretty orderly.
