In Alexandre Promios travels in 1896 he traveled through Egypt and made films on the way, now under the series of films on the Lumiere website titled "Alexandre Promio en Égypte". "El Mahmal" is a ceremony that carries the new cover carpet of the Kaaba in Mecca from the manufacturer in Cairo to give as a gift offering to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After the ceremony through Cairo, the carpet is taken through Palestine to Saudi Arabia and then Mecca before the pilgrimage season, for another celebration where the Kaaba is covered.
