This is a filmed recording from Opéra francais, and with it a chronophone for the sound recording. There are four scenes, each around 2 minutes long. The Opera is about a love affair between King of Castile Alfonso XI, his mistress, "the favorite" Leonora, and her lover, Fernando. It is set in the early 14th century Spain against the backdrop of the Moorish occupation of Spain and power struggles between church and state.
